Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
