“While we are presenting proof for a larger total of fatalities than previously reported, this is not a full picture,” he said. “We are sure that there are even now individuals who died in detention that we are unaware of.”

Non-Combatant Fatalities

Some deaths in detention have been high profile, such as a senior healthcare leader who lost his life in confinement after four months in confinement.

An inmate detained alongside the victim stated that he was taken to the yard by correctional officers immediately preceding his death, clearly wounded and unclothed from the lower body. His body has not been returned to Gaza.

Additional detainees who lost their lives in confinement by Israeli authorities stay unnamed. The prison service and defense forces supplied researchers with the total of casualties in custody, and limited further data such as the site where they died, but without the prisoners’ names.
